Here's a close up of the sign that was in the previous post. I stopped because I noticed the debris at the bottom of the sign. A flash flood really did come through the area, even going across the highway. It just seems so unlikely on the clear, sunny days!

Hi! I'm Gretchen, an ecologist, rancher's wife, mother, writer, and dreamer. I've lived and worked in three of the four North American deserts and visited the fourth. This blog is about what it's like to live in the rural high desert on a ranch, spending lots of time outdoors with kids, and our journey to live more sustainably. The thunderstorms in the Great Basin desert surprised me when I was first there. Northern Nevada's Ruby Mountains were so green the next day.
What is the location of this desert?
